January President's Corner Dear Daughters, Happy New Year! I pray that your year will be one filled with health, happiness, peace and joy. Have you sent in your registration for the Winter Retreat yet? If not, please take a moment to print out the form and send it in. Fr. Mark Brown is a wonderful speaker and what a great way to rekindle some old friendships and make some new. In addition, please continue to pray daily for Bishop Coadjutor John Howard, our clergy and delegates as the Diocesan convention approaches on January 29 -30, 2004. Click here for some suggested prayers. On a personal note, I recently finished a personal study of The Purpose Driven Life. If you have not yet read this book by Rick Warren, I highly recommend it. It would also be a wonderful Lenten discipline for those individuals or chapters looking for something a little different this year. In addition, take some time this month to review your Personal Rule of Life. Have you been meeting your commitments? Does it need some adjustments? Finally, thank God for all his many blessings as well as the trials and tribulations he allows in your life. The potter continues to mold the clay until we become the vessel we were meant to be. Hope you see you at Camp Weed for the Winter Retreat, February 6 & 7, 2004. FHS,

Grace Chapter at Cathedral Residences Instituted on January 18
Sunday, January 18, 2004 marked the institution of “Grace Chapter at Cathedral Residences” at St. John’s Cathedral, Jacksonville, Florida. This is the second chapter in the country to be “in-house” in an Episcopal Retirement Residential Center. (A third chapter in a church in North Carolina serves members in a retirement community.) Diocesan President, Carole Hartunian, presented the Charter to the Very Reverend Edward Harrison who then duly instituted Grace Chapter and admitted Margery Rose Spurlock, Jacqueline R. Dewitt, Sheila Elder (the wife of The Rt. Rev. Philip Elder), Christine P. Boney and Betty Lou Leake into membership in the Order. Two charter members, Dianne Link and Kay M. Scranton transferred to Grace Chapter from St. John’s Chapter. Additional DOK members who live in the residences, but retained their membership in their original Chapter also attend Grace Chapter, these being Grace Elaine Lee, and Ginny Smith. Dianne Larson who is a nurse, a member of St. John’s Chapter, enjoys being with Seniors and graces our Chapter’ s weekly meetings with her presence as well. Our Chaplain is the Rev. John Riley, Chaplain to the Cathedral Foundation. Members of the Province IV Board of Directors, including Diocesan DOK Presidents, concluded their winter Board meeting by attending this service at St. John’ s Cathedral. The Chapter members were overwhelmed to see DOK members, two rows deep, surrounding the altar rail to stand with us as we became a Chapter. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who supported us with prayer during our training period, the St. John’s Chapter who provided the Coffee How Reception, and everyone who shared this special event with us.
