Congratulations to Mary Lou Williams, President of Mary Magdalene chapter at St. Mark's in Starke.  She was the recipient of this year's Bishop's Cross award.  This award is presented at each annual Diocesan Retreat.

Mary Lou Williams, Bishop Cross recipient with Pete Wait, Carole Hartunian, and Barbara Shanahan, last year's recipient.

During the retreat, last year's Bishop Cross recipient, Barbara Shanahan, shared a powerful creed that touched many in attendance.  Several people asked for copies, and we are happy to provide a copy of the Zimbabwe Covenent just by clicking here. President, Carole Hartunian reflects on the Covenent as it relates to DOK members in this month's President's message (printed below).

Dear Daughters,

What a wonderful retreat we had.  Our speaker, Garnet Shepherd helped us all find new meaning in the Parable of the Prodigal Son.  Through visual techniques and artistic interpretation, the parable became intertwined with our own life and experiences.

The Winter Retreat is always a special time as we pass on the Bishop’s Cross, a tradition in our Diocese. Congratulations to Mary Lou Williams, this year’s recipient.

In addition, we were all moved by Barbara Shanahan’s recap of what wearing the cross meant to her this past year and her reading of the Zimbabwe Covenant.  (Click here to read a copy posted on the website).

Haven’t we, as Daughters, taken the positions outlined in the Covenant?  Let me offer a few examples:

I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have Holy Spirit Power…The decision has been made.  I am a disciple of His.  We have taken our vows and wear our cross daily as an outward and visible sign of our love for Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

I do not have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded.  This is exemplified by our gift of service that we offer to our neighbors, our friends and our parish families with no expectation of anything in return.

I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, am uplifted by prayer… Our vow of prayer; we seek God’s guidance through prayer so we may work to spread his kingdom.

Finally, during this season of Lent, ask God to reveal to you areas where you might need change.  Seek to know him by the daily reading of his word.  Begin your day with God,   this way your heart will be prepared to deal with whatever comes your way.  Pray for everyone you come in contact with each day, love them with the love of Jesus.

FHS,
Carole
