Dear Daughters,

When Marigrace reminded me that I needed to send her my message for October, I immediately prayed, Lord what would you have me say?  Well, he showed me that the message in “Our Daily Bread” devotional for October 7th is the one he wanted me to share:

At a British university, a group of students had raised the questions “What do you want to be?”  Different answers were given- a champion athlete, an influential politician, a noted scholar.  Shyly, yet clearly, one student said something that caused thoughtful silence:  “You may laugh at me, but I want to be a saint.”

Imagine – a saint!

Whatever her concept of sainthood, many in our secular society would view that ambition as eccentric.  Yet if we are Christians, it ought to be the highest priority of our life.  The essence of sainthood is simply to be like Jesus.  Paul said that the overarching purpose of God the Father is to make us like his Son (Romans 8:29).

Of course, every believer is guaranteed perfect conformity to Christ in the world to come.  But God does not want us to wait passively until we enter heaven for that supernatural transformation to take place (1 John 3:2).  We are to be cooperating with the Holy Spirit to grow more and more like Christ “in this world”.

Yes, we are already saints by faith in Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:1).  But each day we face the challenge of becoming what we are – Christ like in every area of our lives. (Vernon Grounds)

As All Saint’s day approaches please participate in the celebration offered by your parish and prayerfully consider a contribution to the DOK Endowment fund in thanksgiving for a special event or saint who influenced your life.  These gifts are recorded in the book of memory and preserve the future of the Order.

To belong to Christ is to be a saint;
To live like a saint is to be like Christ.  Amen

FHS,
Carole

Dear Daughters

Since it is November my guess is that you are expecting a message about being thankful since the Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated this month.

Well, just to mix things up, my message is about evangelism, the mission of the Daughters of the King.  Our prayers and service should always focus on the spread of Christ’s Kingdom.

First, let me ask you a question?  What is the one thing you cannot do in heaven?  If you said evangelize then you are correct.  Think about it everyone you meet in heaven will be a believer.

Ask yourself, when I get there will it matter how much money I made?  Will it matter what kind of car I drove?  Will it matter who won the Superbowl last year?  No, the only thing that will matter is who is in heaven and who is not.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:11, “The Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.”

If it is of the utmost importance for Jesus to reach the lost and we are Daughters of Christ the King, it should absolutely be a major priority for us.

So remember, you are where you are for a reason.  Your vocation, your neighbors, your community and your many associations are a world you inhabit to which you were sent.  Every one of us has a sphere of influence that touches many lives and that involvement is an opportunity.  Ask God to equip you with the desire and confidence to share your faith.

Then, step out of your comfort zone and share the difference God has made in your life.

Just like you would share where you got your hair cut, your new dress or anything else you are proud of.  Start off with a welcoming smile and God will guide you the rest of the way.

Blessings,
Carole

DOK Endowment Fund

All Saints Day, November 1, has been set aside for the ingathering of the Endowment Fund. The Endowment Fund was established to further the work of the Order in the extension of Christ’s Kingdom.  The Fund, which supports ongoing projects, was established in 1928 at the triennial convention in Washington D. C.  It is increased by bequests, thank offerings, memorials, and other special gifts from persons wishing to forward the objectives of the Daughters of the King.  For more information about the Endowment Fund, click here. Please consider one of the three options for giving, and ... BE GENEROUS!

Dear Daughters,

Do you want to know how to have the best Christmas ever?  You can by focusing on what matters most.

Outlined below are some thoughts from Rick Warren in his article, “The Purpose Driven Christmas”.

  • Make It A Time For Meaningful Fellowship – Real fellowship occurs when there is heart to heart sharing.  Ask thoughtful questions and listen, truly listen to the answer.  When real fellowship happens, families and friends grow closer to each other.
  • Make It A Time For Personal Growth – At the first Christmas the angels announced:  “Peace on earth, goodwill among men.”  In other words, Christmas is a time for reconciliation, for forgiving and restoring broken relationships.  So this Christmas, make peace which requires courage, patience, openness, initiative and maturity.
  • Make It A Time For Helpful Service – In this busy season this can be the most precious gift.  Look for opportunities to do simple acts of kindness during the season.  Run an errand, baby-sit so a young mother can finish her shopping, or hold open the door for someone with a smile on your face.

  • Make It A Time For Joyful Worship Rejoice, Celebrate, Praise.  Use this time as an opportunity to worship God in your daily activities for his Christmas gift to you:  He sent our Savior.  Perform each activity as if you were doing it for God.  Take heed of the words in the Christmas Carols playing everywhere and let them sink into your mind:  “Oh come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.”

  • Make It A Cheerful Time For Sharing – Sharing of your gifts, talents and your faith.  During the Christmas season people are more open to discussing spiritual issues.  So share the message of God’s love and his Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.  It is the best news they will ever hear.
